Group Writing
In this reading/comprehension strategy, students will work together to share ideas based around a specific topic or reading, which was previously introduced or assigned. Collaborating allows students to explore more ideas than if they were to think and write independently. This strategy can be used by the teacher as assessment for learning.
Steps:
1. Students are assigned a topic to discuss in small groups (3-5 people). This could be based on a previous reading or information/a topic that has been just introduced in a lesson.
2. Students will discus the topic together until conversations come to a natural close. (These conversations can be timed or not depending on the needs of the students and the lesson.)
3. The group will create a final product of one written summary of what was discussed which will be shared with the teacher and/or submitted to the teacher.
Possible Curricular Connections:
GLO 1: Students will listen, speak, read, write, view, and represent to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
